Description of the examples

Some examples are distributed with the JADE software, that  show how to use some of the JADE features and some suggested programming idioms.  

All the examples must be compiled because only their source code has been distributed. Some makeexampleXXX.bat files in the JADE root help the users into this compilation step. 

In order to run the examples,  set the CLASSPATH environment variable to contain the files jade.jar, jadeTools.jar, Base64.jar, iiop.jar and the directory where the .class files of the examples have been generated, usually  ('.').  All example agent classes belong to subpackages of 'examples' package, refer to the various example agents with a fully qualified package name; for example, class ComplexBehaviourAgent in 'behaviours' subdirectory of 'examples' directory must be started  via the following command line::

      java jade.Boot -platform agent1:examples.behaviours.ComplexBehaviourAgent

The following is the list of all the example programs distributed in the 'src/examples' directory.

• Behaviours, this subdirectory shows some examples of agent behaviours.
• Base 64, this example shows how to encode serialized Java objects into the content of an ACLMessage.
• Jess, is a sample agent that allows the programmer to avoid writing any line of Java code and implement everything in CLIPS by using JESS.
• Mobile, this is an example of a mobile agent.
• Protocols, this example shows the usage of two behaviours provided by JADE that implement the 'fipa-query' protocol and the 'fipa-request' protocol.
• Receivers, this example shows some methods an agent can use to receive a message.
• Subdf, this examples shows how to set up multiple Agent Domains by means of a network of connected Directory Facilitator Agents.
• Ontology, this example shows how to use the support for application specific ontologies provided by JADE.
• JSP, this is an example of integration of JADE and JSP kindly provided by Daniel Le Berre. Look at the tutorial in the documentation.
• PingAgent, this directory contains a simple Ping Agent.
• Message Template, his example shows how to define application specific MessageTemplates.
• JadeJessProtege, this package includes examples for a closer integration of JADE with JESS, optionally also with protege.
• In Process, this example shows how to start a JADE runtime from within an external application.
• ThanksAgent, this sample agent implements the following functionality: 

• The agent registers with the DF as soon as it is started 
• it searches for  agents registered in DF. 
• it sends a greeting message to all of them 
• it listens if there is an answer 
• it thanks the agents that sends an answer for having answered.
